If you’ve ever been a child who was able to enjoy Halloween, you know that the costumes and especially the masks are part of the fun. What you might not realize, though, is that masks have been a part of every culture since ancient times. They have been used for everything from religious rituals to theater and children’s plays. Today, masks are often used at Halloween, or Samhain. They are also used at masquerade balls, many of which also occur at Halloween. They’re also popular artifacts to bring back from travel to various countries throughout the world

Choosing a mask is done in many ways. Some people like to choose a mask then build the perfect costume around it. Other people like to find a perfect costume then search for the right mask to finish off the look. Either way finding your perfect mask is an important part of accessorizing for Halloween. Choosing the perfect mask should be fun, that is what dressing up is about.

Halloween masks add both excitement and mystery to your costume while being wonderful accessories. However, while choosing the perfect Halloween mask you should know that some of the most realistic looking ones are the latex masks. When choosing a latex mask you can be just about anything from an alien, animal or insects. You may also choose from a wide assortment of Halloween masks that include your favorite television shows, movies and cartoon characters.

Unless of course you would rather show up in a scary mask while trick or treating, door to door or simply enjoying time with friends and family while carving a Halloween pumpkin, there are so many to choose from. Such as Jason or Freddie masks as well as a large and wonderful assortment of goblins, ghouls, corpses and creepy clowns. Although, we should not forget the classics like Frankenstein, werewolves, zombies, ghosts as well as Presidents, goons, monsters and other masks of mayhem.

Other perhaps less scary choices include witches, wizards, Mardi Gras masks, or pirates. If you want to impersonate an old man or woman, you can do that, too. Of course, you can choose such favorites as kings or queens as well.

Therefore, you see there are many different kinds of Halloween masks such as these and so many more. Whether you choose to wear a theater mask or a bush mask, you will be able to enjoy October 31 while wearing your favorite holiday fashions as you masquerade about on All Hallows Eve.

Last year the most popular Halloween masks for children were the usual pumpkin, princess, pirate, witch, cat, and vampire masks along with Spider-Man, Superman, Power Rangers, and Disney Princesses. Adults enjoyed wearing Witch, pirate, vampire, cat, clown, fairy, and gypsy masks as well as ghost and ghoul masks. With a variety of accessories available for Halloween and a wide selection of masks you would think you can be just about anything you want to be. This is true if you get your costume early, if you wait too long the selection will be picked through and you will be left with the masks that no one else wanted. Edited by Glinda Zuladra
